Google launching its own Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), while the details of this still aren't clear, another piece of the puzzle just emerged that indicates Google is going to offer its own virtual private network service.This new application called Google Connectivity Services, which appeared in an Android 5.1 firmware update.
With a VPN encrypting traffic between a laptop or phone, people can potentially have another layer of security when connecting to unsecured wireless networks like those in airports, hotels and coffee shops.
The new Android 5.1 Lollipop version on his Google Nexus 6 smartphone and he came around an app named “Google Connectivity Services”. To find this app, you can navigate to Settings > Apps > All, and look for the name on the list.
The Google Connectivity Services app and connecting to an open Wi-Fi network, users are said to see a Google VPN pop-up that reads, "To help protect you on open Wi-Fi networks, your data will be transmitted securely through a Google VPN," along with two options - "learn more" and "got it".
Clicking the "Learn more" button redirects to a standard Google support page, whereas "Got it" shows a VPN connection setup screen that however is not yet functional.
The setup screen reads, "Google Wi-Fi Assistant wants to set up a VPN connection that allows it to monitor network traffic. Only accept if you trust the source. [Key symbol] appears at the top of your screen when VPN is active."
